ABC Film Blowing Machine with IBC: What It Looks Like After 2 Months
2026-08-25Last week our sales team was in Thailand and stopped by a customer's factory. This wasn't a new installation. The ABC three-layer film blowing machine with IBC had already been running for about eight months.
The customer sent us a short video from the shop floor. I watched it twice. Not because there's anything dramatic happening — the machine is just running, the bubble is stable, and the workers are doing their jobs. That's exactly the point.
What I noticed first: the bubble is clean.
ABC co-extrusion means three layers with different jobs. The outer layer takes the abrasion. The middle layer carries the recycled material. The inner layer handles the sealing. When the layers aren't balanced, you see wobbling, thickness variation, or haze in the film. This bubble was holding its shape. The IBC internal cooling system was keeping the air volume steady, and the bubble wasn't pulsing or drifting.

What surprised me: the operators weren't hovering over the controls.
On a new machine, you usually see two or three people watching every meter of film, adjusting the air ring, tweaking the nip roll speed. In this video, one worker was winding the finished roll, another was feeding raw material, and the machine was running itself. That tells me two things: the parameters were dialed in correctly during commissioning, and the IBC system is doing what it's supposed to do — maintaining bubble stability without constant manual correction.

The part you can't see in the video: the customer is running mostly recycled material in the center layer.
He didn't tell us the exact ratio — that's his formula — but he mentioned he's buying less virgin resin now than when he started. That's the whole point of ABC co-extrusion. You put the expensive material on the outside where the film needs to look good and perform, and you fill the middle with regrind or off-spec material. The cost savings add up fast at volume.
I won't name the customer or the exact specs. He asked for privacy, and we respect that. But I can say this: he's making industrial packaging film for the local market, and the machine is running two shifts a day.

What this means if you're comparing ABC vs ABA:
Both are three-layer. The difference is what the middle layer does. In ABA, the outer layers are the same material, and the center is the cheap filler. In ABC, all three layers can be different materials with different jobs. If you need one side heat-sealable and the other side UV-resistant, ABC is the way to go. If you just need shopping bags and cost is everything, ABA is usually enough.
This customer chose ABC because he needed specific surface properties on each side of the film. The machine was built to those specs before it left our factory.
